The foundational yarn I use is from Iceland. My favorite is from Hespa, an independent yarn dying studio in southern Iceland. Owned and operated by Guðrún Bjarnadóttir, her wool is dyed using plants native to Iceland and is perfect for my work. Hespa is open year round and should not be missed if you are ever in Iceland.
My other favorite Icelandic yarn is from Ístex, the largest yarn producer in Iceland. Their yarn comes in several weights and dozens of colors and is readily available around the world and locally at Acorn Street Shop in Seattle.
The yarns at Hespa!
My frames are handmade by blacksmith and photographer Louis Raffloer of Black Dog Forge, located in Seattle's Georgetown Equinox Studio complex.
You can see Louie’s work in person during Equinox Studio’s open house on the second Saturday of each month, or by appointment.
Some of my favorite PNW indie dyers are Juni+Si, Trilogy Yarns, Wedgewood Fibers, Serial Knitters, Thought To Thread, Grey Drizzle Fibers, The Lamb & Kid, and The Artful Ewe. These dyers are color wizards and provide me with a never-ending supply of beautiful choices!
See my “About” page for a list of PNW yarn shops that carry these and many other great yarns.
