The Highlands
Being in the Highlands of Iceland is like being on the top of the world. There are no trees, only a very few low shrubs, grasses, mosses and lichens. And rivers, braided and flowing, stretch across the vastness.
During the summer, farmers take their sheep to the Highlands to graze until September. The sheep roundup in the fall is called réttir.
Inspired by my own visit to the Highlands, this piece explores the geography and topology of Vatnajökull glacier region as seen from space.
